Echo Cancellation
Audio processing technology that prevents the translated audio output from being picked up again by the input microphone, avoiding translation feedback loops.
Understanding Echo Cancellation
Echo cancellation is critical in live translation environments where translated audio is played through speakers in the same room as the source microphone. Without echo cancellation, the translated audio can be picked up by the microphone, re-translated, and create a feedback loop of increasingly garbled translations. Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) algorithms identify and remove the echo component from the microphone input, ensuring only the original speaker's voice is captured for translation.
How Selah Translate Uses Echo Cancellation
Selah Translate includes a built-in echo cancellation toggle in the Translation Studio. When enabled, the system filters out translated audio output from the microphone input, preventing feedback loops. This is especially important in venues where translations are played through PA systems or computer speakers in the same room as the input microphone.
